Healthy skin reveals equilibrium between cell renewal within its depths and cell removal at its upper surface. Via intermediate forms, cube-shaped cells in the basal layer develop over a matter of several weeks into disk-shaped horny cells, which subsequently become detached from each other and fall off externally.
Cohesion between the individual cells is achieved via desmosomes. These protein-containing cellular bonds are dissolved by native proteases (protein-cleaving enzymes). The cells can only be removed externally with the aid of these proteases.
The equilibrium between cell renewal and removal is now in a state of dynamic balance, i.e. increased removal leads to increased cell renewal in the basal cell layer, and vice-versa. Specific removal therefore leads, via increased cell renewal, to smoother skin.
ENZYME PEEL specifically intervenes into the biochemical cell removal mechanism in the same manner as the skin's native enzymes. Each ampoule promotes specific skin cell removal, thereby supporting skin regeneration and smoothing.
